President Joe Biden on Saturday awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 figures from politics, sports, the entertainment industry, civil rights groups, LGBTQ+ rights activists, and the sciences.

Among those receiving the highest civilian award at a ceremony at the White House were former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Democratic philanthropist George Soros.

The White House said the honorees have made "exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, and security of the United States, international peace, and other significant social, public, and private endeavors."

But billionaire Elon Musk, a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, has criticized President Joe Biden's decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to billionaire philanthropist George Soros.

Through an ironic meme, Musk expressed his disapproval of Soros receiving the prestigious title.

The clash between Soros and Musk began after the latter bought the social network Twitter.

Groups funded by Hungarian billionaire George Soros had called on some of the largest companies in the world to abandon Twitter when Elon Musk came to the helm of the platform.
