The Basic Court in Peja has sentenced Edmond Lajçi to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Gjyljeta Ukella.

The verdict was announced on Friday and according to it he is convicted of the criminal offense of "Aggravated Murder".

Laçi pleaded guilty in the initial hearing held on December 24 at the Basic Court in Peja.

Ukella's family welcomed the decision.

According to the indictment, Lajçi shot his wife to death in the head on the morning of April 16 "due to ongoing problems the defendant had with the victim."

"I killed my wife and sent a police patrol," he told law enforcement, according to the indictment.
