A tragic event has shocked Spain , where a two-year-old girl lost her life after being left inside her father's car for hours, amid the scorching temperatures that have gripped the country.

The incident occurred in the Galician town of Brión, where the child suffered a heart attack as a result of heatstroke.

According to Spanish and British media, her father forgot to take her to nursery after being distracted by a phone call during his morning commute.

It is reported that he had first dropped the family's other child off at school and then headed to work, without realizing that the two-year-old girl had been left in the back seat of the vehicle.

The alarm was raised only a few hours later, when the mother went to pick up the child from daycare and was informed that she had never arrived there.

The parents immediately notified emergency services, but despite the rapid intervention, the girl could not be saved.

Spanish authorities have launched investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragedy, while the family is receiving psychological support.

The Brión municipal council declared two days of mourning in memory of the little girl and announced that a minute of silence would be held in her honor.

In an official statement, local authorities expressed their condolences to the family and promised full support at this difficult time. The incident comes at a time when Spain is facing unusually high temperatures for the month of May.

The state meteorological agency Aemet has warned that temperatures could reach up to 38 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Meteorologists point out that extreme heat waves are occurring earlier and earlier in the year, a phenomenon linked to climate change.

Spain is considered among the countries most affected in Europe by rising temperatures and the increased risk of massive forest fires.
