Three people from the same family were found dead on Monday in an apartment in the Pietralata area of ​​Rome.

The victims are a 42-year-old man, his 41-year-old wife and their 5-year-old daughter, who was disabled.

The three were found in the bedroom with gunshot wounds. The alarm was raised around 1:00 p.m. after a family member became concerned because he could not contact them.

Emergency services arrived at the apartment at number 12, Via dell'Antracite, and firefighters were forced to force open the apartment door.

Inside, they were confronted with the tragic scene. The Carabinieri of the Roma Montesacro company immediately launched an investigation and carried out expert examinations at the scene.

According to preliminary information, the main line of investigation is that of a murder followed by suicide, but the exact dynamics of the event have not yet been determined. Investigators are trying to reconstruct the family's last hours and determine who used the weapon.

A pistol was also found in the apartment, which is suspected to have been registered and legally held by the 42-year-old. The reason for his possession of the weapon, whether it was for sporting activities or for another purpose, is also being verified.

Another element being examined by investigators are some notes found inside the apartment. Their contents will be analyzed to understand whether they could be linked to the event and a possible decision to commit the fatal act. However, it is still not clear who wrote them and therefore the investigation continues.

During the search of the apartment, the family dog ​​was also found dead, which also had gunshot wounds. The presence of the killed animal is another element being taken into consideration by authorities during the reconstruction of the events.

From the first information, the family is described as an ordinary family. The couple had given birth to their daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. The father worked as an IT technician, while not many details have been revealed about the mother's profession so far.

Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine exactly what happened inside the apartment and under what circumstances the three family members lost their lives.
