The first woman, Giorgia Meloni, is sworn in as Italy's prime minister

Giorgia Meloni has been sworn in as Italy's first woman prime minister and the first far-right leader to head the country's government. The leader of the "Brothers of Italy (FdI)", Giorgia Meloni was sworn in before President Sergio Mattarella on Saturday.

Meloni takes over the government from Mario Draghi after her FdI led the right-wing coalition to victory in last month's general election, winning around 26% of the vote. Meloni's 24-member cabinet, which consists of only 6 female ministers, was sworn in after her.
