Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing something in Belarus this summer, using joint military exercises with Belarus as a pretext.
"This summer Russia is preparing something there, under the guise of military training camps," Zelensky said during a summit in Warsaw, without providing further details or evidence to support his position.
Russia and Belarus have announced joint military exercises for September.
It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian president's recent statements echo growing voices speaking of increased Russian aggression.
The climate is expected to be fueled by new threats launched by the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, who said that NATO's newest members are now potential targets for Moscow and are at risk of "possible retaliatory strikes" using nuclear weapons in the event of a conflict, according to a report by the state news agency TASS.
Medvedev appears to be referring to Sweden and Finland, the last two countries to join the Western military alliance.
