Adam Harrison, the son of the creator and director of the "Pawn Stars" tv series Rick Harrison, has died at the age of 39 from a drug overdose.

Harrison's representative, Laura Herlovich, confirmed the cause of death.

TMZ initially reported the news that the Harrison family learned of Adam's death on Friday. The circumstances of Adam's death are unknown. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department confirmed an investigation into his death has been opened.

"Our family is extremely saddened by Adam's death. We ask for privacy as we grieve his loss," Herlovich with the Las Vegas Review-Journal said on behalf of the Harrison family.

"Pawn Stars" is a hugely popular television series, where people trade rare items for valuables in the Harrison family's store. The show was also attended by Rick Harrison's two sons, Adam and Jake.
