German AfD MP Matthias Musdorff accused of making 'Nazi salute' in

Berlin prosecutors have filed criminal charges against far-right AfD lawmaker Matthias Musdorff. Bild newspaper reported that Musdorff, 60, is accused of greeting a party colleague at the eastern entrance of the German federal parliament building by stamping on his shoes and giving him a Nazi salute during a parliamentary session in June 2023.

The Nazi salute is illegal in Germany and punishable by up to three years in prison. In a post on X, Musdorff says that in the 200-page investigation, there is only one person who claims to have given the "Hitler salute."

"The investigation was handed to me together with the indictment last week. In the nearly 200-page file, there is exactly one person who makes this absurd accusation: That in June two years ago, at the entrance to the Bundestag, when I was handing my wife's coat to her in the toilet, I made the so-called 'Hitler salute,'" he initially stated.

"This person is a former SPD MP who considers the AfD a 'rallying point for Nazis', 'hatred, misanthropy and intolerance', which 'should have no place in modern society'," he added.

As he claims, "all direct witnesses, toilet attendants, Bundestag police, passersby, doormen and visitors, a total of eight people, unanimously deny the description of the complaint, we will immediately express our point of view in more detail."

"I personally emphasize once again that I categorically reject the accusation. It is shameful that someone is trying to create a political spectacle of this level, instead of engaging constructively with the content of our party and its politics," he concluded in his post.

It is noted that last October, the immunity of the 60-year-old MP was lifted, following a relevant complaint, in order to investigate the incident.
