The government of Israel has accepted the proposal presented by the US for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
This is what US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken declared from Israel, where he had a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallad, which lasted 2.5 hours.
Blinken called on Hamas to do the same with the proposal that the US had presented during the talks in Doha, Qatar, but which the militant movement considered too far from their expectations.
In his remarks, Blinken noted that the time has come to conclude a cease-fire agreement in Gaza that would provide for the return of hostages held by Hamas and provide relief to Palestinians who have suffered 10 months of devastating fighting.
This is Blinken's ninth consecutive mission to the Middle East since the conflict began last October, and he is expected to be in Cairo on Tuesday for a new round of talks.
On Friday, the first round of contacts concluded in Doha, although more or less all parties signaled that there is still work to be done to sign an agreement.
In a joint statement from Egypt, Qatar and the US, it is said that Washington has presented Israel and Hamas with a proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza, which closes the remaining gaps between them.
