A book believed to be the earliest and most complete copy of the Hebrew Bible has sold for $38.1 million in New York, Sotheby's auction house said.
"The Sassoon Codex contains all 24 books of the Hebrew Bible - with only 12 leaves missing - and predates the earliest fully complete Hebrew Bible, the Leningrad Codex, by nearly a century," the auction house said.

"The Bible, which dates to the late 9th or early 10th century, has become the most expensive manuscript sold at auction and the most expensive Jewish religious artefact sold at auction in history," Sotheby's said.
After a four-minute bidding war, the auction was won by an American non-profit organization which intends to donate it to the ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv.
