Totò Riina's son-in-law is arrested in Malta

This morning, the son-in-law of the late mafia boss Totò Riina was arrested in Malta.

Italian media, citing the Maltese Interior Ministry, report that Antonio Ciavarello was arrested by Maltese police, who executed a European arrest warrant issued by the Brindisi Court on January 24, 2022.

The 50-year-old had taken refuge in Malta in an attempt to escape a final prison sentence.

After weeks of investigations, police surrounded Ciavarello's residence in the populous city of Mosta, in the center of the island, before making the arrest.

Appearing in court, he confirmed his identity and expressed his consent to return to Italy.
