Ceasefire in the Black Sea? Russia: Only if you lift sanctions

The official Kremlin has published a statement on the talks with the US in Saudi Arabia, where it has presented a series of conditions for which it says the ceasefire agreement in the Black Sea comes after these conditions are met.

According to the Kremlin, the agreement will only come into effect after sanctions are lifted on Russian banks involved in international food and fertilizer trade, and they have been fully reconnected to Swift, a network that facilitates secure financial transfers between banks.

This means that Russia is effectively demanding that sanctions be lifted from its banks, food producers and exporters, as well as insurers involved in food exports, before a ceasefire in the Black Sea can take effect.
