Chaos at Greek airports, all flights canceled

Chaos and major disruptions have been recorded since Sunday morning at Athens International Airport and all Greek airports. The situation is caused by a fault in the aircraft navigation systems in the Athens FIR (Flight Information Region administered by Greece, based in Athens).

Radio communication systems in northern Greece have been rendered unusable, which has also led to the blocking of the communication systems of aircraft flying in Greek airspace.

No aircraft can land or take off automatically from the country's aerodromes, while the aircraft that were in the landing phase at the time of the defect used manual and visual descent systems.

Flights were immediately affected both at Eleftherios Venizelos and the rest of the country's airports, with planes stranded on the runway and departures and arrivals postponed.
