The Speaker of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Bërnabič, has said that she expects that, after the formation of new European institutions and after the presidential elections in the USA in November, the approach of the West towards Kosovo will change and it will face "different measures".
"If we manage to keep the peace, to face all the provocations, which are terrible, we can expect, I think, completely different measures and a different approach to Pristina", said Bernabič for Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).
She estimated that the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is "using the calm in the work of the European institutions" before the new institutions are formed, to "cause armed conflict" in Kosovo.
Elections for the European Parliament (EP) were held in June, and at the end of autumn the five-year mandate of the new European Commission (EC) will begin.
"The EP has been formed, the EC should be formed, but even the EP is not working at full capacity. We have elections in the USA in November and he is taking advantage of this", said Bërnabič about Kurti, apparently referring to the actions of the Government of Kosovo to close the parallel Serbian institutions in the north of Kosovo months ago and its intention to open them the bridge over the river Ibër.
Bërnabiç added that "Pristina's most loyal allies" now have a more critical attitude towards Kosovo and Albin Kurti than before, since the United States and EU countries have openly criticized Kurti's actions in the north inhabited by a majority of Serbs. describing them as "one-sided" and "uncoordinated".
Belgrade has described as "criminal acts" aimed at "persecuting the Serbs" the closure of parallel Serbian institutions in the north of Kosovo.
The Kosovar authorities insist that they are "illegal" and violate the country's constitutional order./REL
