The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has expressed this Tuesday (October 29, 2023) that he, as Prime Minister of the country, cannot establish the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, which is part of the main demands for official Pristina according to an agreement on normalization of relations with Serbia.
During a press conference, Kurti emphasized his readiness to sign a draft statute for the Association in March 2023 in Ohrid, when the countries had agreed on the annex to the Basic Agreement.
"I offered to write the draft statute on March 18, 2023 in Ohrid, but I was refused. But, on the other hand, let me emphasize that I am the prime minister of the democratic republic. Since Kosovo is a democratic republic, prime ministers do not form associations of municipalities", said Kurti.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo added that the request for the establishment of the association should not be imposed on Kosovo and added that the country already has an association of municipalities, referring to the association of municipalities of Kosovo.
"Municipalities associate with each other, coordinate and cooperate. You know that we already have an Association of Kosovo Municipalities. If one wants another association, then it must come from someone else. If the prime minister were to establish it, the association would be an imposition on the municipalities", he emphasized.
Kurti underlines that the establishment of the association requested by Serbia should be a "free and fair" election.
