A Russian drone has hit a 10-story residential building in Romania, a NATO member country.

The news comes from the Romanian Ministry of Defense, which explains: "During the night between May 28 and 29, the Russian Federation resumed drone attacks against civilian targets and infrastructure in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania."

“One of these drones entered Romanian airspace, was tracked by radar to the southern part of the city of Galați and crashed into the roof of a building, causing a fire,” the ministry added. Emergency services said two people were injured.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry denounced "a serious and irresponsible escalation" by Russia after a Russian drone crashed into a building, slightly injuring two people, in Galați, a city in eastern Romania near the border with Ukraine.

"Romania has informed its allies and the NATO Secretary General about the situation and has requested that measures be taken to accelerate the transfer of counter-drone capabilities to Romania," the ministry added.

NATO declared that it would strengthen defense against all threats.

"We condemn Russia's irresponsibility and NATO will continue to strengthen its defenses against all threats, including drones," the Alliance wrote in X.
