The sadness over the tragic loss of former Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his brother continues to run deep, as Spanish authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the fatal accident.

According to the initial police report, the cause of the accident is suspected to have been the high speed of the Lamborghini Huracán, which is said to have exceeded the 120 km/h limit, and the explosion of a tire that led to the loss of control and the car going off the road.

But this official version has been questioned by two eyewitnesses who were among the first to arrive at the scene. Truck driver José Azevedo, who also recorded the video later posted on social media, states: “They passed me very calmly, without any excessive speed. I sent the video to CMTV because they started circulating unfounded news.”

Azevedo also addressed the families of the victims with a message of comfort and clarification:

"I give you my word, they weren't speeding. They were very calm. I drive this road every day, I know it well. It's dark and dangerous. I saw the make and color of the car very clearly."

His statement is reinforced by another witness, truck driver José Aleixo Duarte, who also filmed the scene and attempted to save the two young men, but was unable to do anything to get them out of the burning car.

Investigations into the tire explosion and the circumstances of the accident continue, while voices against the official version are increasing, opening a new debate over what really happened on that tragic night on the A-52 highway in Spain.
