Abortion, a constitutional right in France!

The French Senate has given the green light to women's abortion rights. The decision to include this right in the Constitution comes after the lower house, the National Assembly, approved this bill in January.

Despite the hesitation of some senators from the right and the center, the bill was approved with 267 votes in favor and 50 against and 22 abstentions.

"This vote is historic. We will be the first country in the world to enshrine this right in the constitution so that women can decide about their bodies."

The bill will now go before lawmakers in a joint session in the French Parliament and is expected to be approved by a majority next week.

Proponents and supporters of the bill say that abortion is a fundamental right and a guaranteed freedom that should be included in the Constitution.

None of France's main political parties represented in parliament have questioned the right to abortion, which was decriminalized in 1975.

Emmanuel Macron's government wants point 34 of the Constitution to be changed to specify that "the law defines the conditions through which the freedom of women to be able to have an abortion is exercised, which is guaranteed".

Women's right to an abortion in France is simpler than in the United States or some other EU countries.

According to a poll in July last year, about 83% of French people are satisfied with the fact that abortion is legal.
