A family in Australia is involved in a tragic accident.

Couple Cindy Braddock, 25, and Jake Day, 28, were traveling with their children, ages 5, 2 and 1, when they were involved in the crash after the car left the road.

While the parents died at the scene, the children were trapped in the vehicle for 55 hours. According to local media reports, all 3 children could have died if it wasn't for the smart action of the 5-year-old girl, who freed the two babies from the couch where they were placed.

They stayed for about 55 hours next to the dead bodies of their parents, as they were found by the police in a severe state of dehydration.

"If it wasn't for the 5-year-old who loosened the children's seat belts, they wouldn't be with us today," said one of their relatives.

“She probably won't figure it out for a few years. They stayed in the car for 55 hours at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. No one knows what they have been through," he added.

The children were taken to hospital with severe dehydration, police said, but are out of danger.
