Three U.S. soldiers have been killed and 25 others wounded in a drone strike in Jordan, the U.S. military said.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that the casualties were caused by a drone strike on a base in northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border.

U.S. President Joe Biden said the attack was carried out by "radical militant groups backed by Iran."

It is the first time U.S. soldiers have been killed in the region following the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7.

There have been attacks on U.S. bases in the region, but so far there have been no casualties by the U.S. military.

"While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by Iranian-backed radical militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq," Biden said in a statement.

"Jill and I join the families and friends of our fallen - and Americans across the country - in grieving the loss of these warriors in this despicable and wholly unjust attack," the statement adds.
