The second victim has been confirmed from the powerful explosion that rocked a 5-story building in the "Beqir Dardha" neighborhood in Elbasan on Wednesday afternoon.
The lifeless body of 69-year-old Hamit Ibro was found under the ruins of the building by search and rescue teams of the Armed Forces.
The 69-year-old had been missing since the moment of the explosion, while emergency teams continued searching for him for hours under the ruins of the palace.
The powerful explosion occurred in an apartment in the "Beqir Dardha" neighborhood, causing severe damage to the building's structure. As a result, the apartment walls and the building's stairs collapsed, while three floors of the building merged into one.
An 82-year-old woman, who lived in the apartment next to the one where the explosion occurred, also lost her life in the incident.
Meanwhile, 10 other people, who suffered asphyxiation, received medical attention at the hospital and are out of danger.
The explosion caused significant damage to the entire building, which has been declared uninhabitable. Residents were evacuated by emergency teams, while authorities are taking measures to rehabilitate them.
The causes of the explosion still remain unclear, while preliminary suspicions are for a gas cylinder.
