Sokol Hoxha, the 51-year-old extradited from the United States of America, arrived this Monday at the Fier Court, under strict security measures, where his request for the statute of limitations on his criminal sentence will be reviewed.

Hoxha, convicted of murdering three people, seeks to benefit from the legal mechanism of statute of limitations, arguing that 26 years have passed without the verdict given against him by the Fier Court being executed.

The 51-year-old from Patos has been sentenced in absentia to 25 years in prison for the murder of the two Banaj brothers, an event that occurred in 1997. Meanwhile, he has also been given a life sentence by Belgian justice for the murder of Brunilda Dervishi. Sokol Hoxha was arrested in the United States of America in May, as part of the operation codenamed "Globe", thanks to cooperation between law enforcement agencies in Albania, Belgium and the United States.

He was extradited to Albania on August 6 and sent to Fier prison to serve the 25-year prison sentence, handed down in absentia by the Fier Court in 2000.

However, after extradition, the 51-year-old requested the expungement of the criminal sentence through statute of limitations, claiming that the legal deadline for its execution had passed.

The previous hearing, held a week ago, was adjourned to request information from the Supreme Court regarding the latest decision-making on the case.
