In the last 15 years, an unknown name until a few weeks ago, has made a huge turnaround, becoming one of the richest people in Albania. He has used several names, due to his past in several European countries, accused of international drug trafficking and murder within the framework of a criminal group. There are even suspicions that during his time of activity in Italy, he had strong ties to the Italian mafia organization Camorra.
The metamorphosis of Olsi Meta (Alias Kristian Konit) in a decade and a half goes from prison in Italy, to drug lord in Europe and an oligarch in Albania. The money of criminal groups, headed by Meta himself, was invested in staggering assets in our country, mainly in the real estate field. A genuine money laundering scheme, which has happened and is happening openly throughout Albania, turning some buildings into "untouchable" for 95% of the population.
VoxNews warned of the action of law enforcement agencies, which a few days after the publication of our editorial investigation, decided to seize assets worth 26 million euros from the citizen now known as Kristain Koni. A total of 19 properties, in the most elite areas of Albania, starting from Tirana to Palasë, have been placed under seizure, in cooperation with the Seized Assets Administration Agency.
But how did this individual manage to bring drug money into Albania and invest it?! He created an investment scheme in the real estate field, buying and selling luxury properties. He managed to create several firms that made purchase and sale papers, leases or in the field of bars and restaurants. Fictitious papers were made with a turnover of tens of millions of euros, with the sole purpose of laundering the money.
According to the announcement of the Tirana Police and Prosecutor's Office, there are 19 properties, spread across luxurious areas of Tirana and Palasa. They were seized from a 45-year-old man with several names, convicted of murder and drug trafficking, as part of a structured criminal group. In addition to the properties, 2 luxury cars and 20 bank accounts, totaling 26 million euros, were seized. "Work is continuing to track down and seize other assets that are suspected of having their source in the criminal activities of this citizen," said the police, as there are suspicions that there may be tens of millions of euros in other properties, or even bank accounts, that are suspected of being laundered in Albania.
Sources from the State Police told VoxNews that Kristian Koni was also known by several names, Olsi Meta, KM, ZR or even KZ. It is learned that the 45-year-old had also transferred some of the seized assets to the name of his retired mother.
"In the framework of the investigations into property proceedings no. 10, dated July 31, 2025, it resulted that this citizen and his retired mother have criminal activity related to citizen Kristian Koni and his previous criminal history. He is found to be involved in a structured criminal network of narcotics trafficking in Italy during the period 2007–2012," the Tirana Prosecution Office said in a press release.
It is learned that the use of several different identities and unjustified financial transactions in relation to the declared legal income of the relevant persons was documented. "According to data administered by official systems and other legal sources, numerous real estate assets, luxury vehicles and bank accounts were identified in the name of Kristian Koni, his mother and the legal entity 'Kriol.AL' sh.pk, with a legal representative of the same citizen," the prosecution said in a statement.
The assets include properties in the areas of Tirana, Bathore, Farka, Marikaj, etc., while the seizures have been imposed with the aim of preventing the alienation or use of these assets for criminal purposes. Also, guaranteeing the execution of possible court decisions on their confiscation.
A few days before the official announcement by the State Police and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the editorial staff of VoxNews exclusively reported details from the investigations carried out by these law enforcement institutions. "Who is Olsi Meta (alias Kristian Koni) who is being investigated for millions of euros of money laundering" was the title of the investigation, while the suspicions were that the person had a staggering wealth in the ranks of businessmen and oligarchs, based on the money he was circulating.
"Meta has also collaborated with other businessmen, existing in Albania, to acquire land, buildings and apartments, creating a chain. In fact, everything is done only on paper and for balance sheets, as the money has illegal sources," warned VoxNews, which also researched official documents, where in 2021 he had created the firm "Kriol.al".
The company's scope was very broad, from assets, cars, media, consultancy, trade or even participation in quotas. "How can you deal with television, buying and selling assets, quotas, fruits and vegetables, construction, consultancy, taxes, IT, management of shopping centers?! Kriol.al also deals with bars-restaurants, hotels, resorts, textile sales, industrial goods, sales of electrical equipment, industrial materials, plumbing, office equipment, etc." were some of the questions in the investigation.
In the investigation, our editorial team raised suspicions that the money comes from illegal activities, both domestically and abroad. VoxNews even reviewed the latest balance sheets of the company Kriol.al, which show that it has made hundreds of thousands of euros, despite the fact that it has no real activity. The suspicions are that the owners and administrators have created a network of companies that only issue supply invoices, but that in the end the profits are minimal. In 2024, according to the documents, Kriol.al has come out with a profit of around 12 thousand euros. So, 1 thousand euros per month.
Meanwhile, in the same year, the firm has made half a million euros, making contracts with other companies. It seems like a large money laundering network, as the money is invested in real estate and then distributed.
Meanwhile, the same person, with a very suspicious background, opened another company in 2023. According to documents that VoxNews researched, the company's object was to rent apartments, rooms, marketing consultancy and brokerage. Again with multiple objects, which allows him to make endless invoices for services that no one knows whether they were performed or not. Law enforcement agencies should see which person, individual, made payments to this company.
If you are going to establish a company with 100 thousand lek and then turn over millions of euros, of course all indications point to money laundering, since the company's activity begins in Tirana and ends in the elite coastal areas of Palasa and Dhërmi.
If we listed the investigations and even seizures of Olsi Meta's (Kristian Konit) staggering assets above, the same person has just as many criminal records. The Albanian police and prosecution accuse him of murder, participation in criminal groups, and even drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, his name turns out to have been involved in Italy many years ago. The criminal activity is suspected to have started in 2007, while 3 years later he was arrested with evidence that the criminal organization was exporting marijuana and cocaine from Spain, the Netherlands and Albania, which they then sent to Italy.
In 2010, several Albanian citizens were arrested in Italy, while Olsi Meta was considered by Italian authorities to be the head of the organization, which he ran from Bologna, a strategic city for the distribution of narcotics to various cities in Italy.
Even the Italian media wrote at the time that the group of Albanians led by Olsi Meta had strong ties to the Italian mafia organization Camorra. It is learned that one of the Italians of the mafia clan collaborated with Fran Ç., who was responsible in Albania and supplied Italian cities with narcotics, through Bari and Brindisi. Both Frani and Olsi had ties to Gaetano Marino, who was one of the leaders of the Neapolitan Camorra clan.
