Six people convicted of murder and cocaine trafficking in Ecuador were killed in early October inside a prison in Guayaquil. All six of them were being investigated by the authorities for involvement in the assassination of the presidential candidate, Fernando Villavicencio.

Villavicencio, who campaigned with an aggressive program against corruption and cocaine trafficking, was killed a week before the second round of the presidential election and at a time when the polls favored him against his rivals.

The authorities in the Latin American country, which in recent years has become the main gateway for the exit of Colombian and Peruvian cocaine towards Europe and the United States of America, said that their elimination could be the work of drug cartels to cover the buyers. of the assassination of the presidential candidate.

The six people executed in the Guayaquil prison were arrested on the day of Villavicencio's murder and were questioned several times by prosecutors to find out who ordered them.

But the moment they allegedly began to name names they were executed by other inmates inside Ecuador's maximum security prison.

The news about such events coming from Ecuador until December 15 sounded foreign to the Albanian reality. Sokol Mjacaj proved the opposite.

The man sentenced to life in prison for the murder of two Czech tourists managed to execute the other man sentenced to life, Arben Lleshi.

The prison situation in Ecuador is already known. Overcrowded and with inmates behind drug cartels with financial power even higher than the country's gross domestic product, murders in the Latin American country's prisons are repeated.

In Albania, Peqini's case shows that the security situation in prisons is even more serious and that, at least officially, it is not suspected that it was violated by washing accounts for the millions of drug trafficking, but by blood feud.

The degradation of security at a time when the agreement signed with Great Britain for the 'importation' of Albanian convicts to the island is an alarm bell for which the responsibilities must come out.

In this case, the responsibilities go higher than just the guards and the director of the Peqin prison, who has already been arrested. The responsibilities go up to Minister Ulsi Manja, because getting a firearm into a high security prison means destroying all the links of the system.

Ulsi Manjë, on the other hand, knowingly or unwittingly implicates in the event the announcement that came out ahead of time from the Ministry of Justice, which informed the placement of Sokol Mjacaj in the 41 BIS regime. As the event proved, the announcement was distributed by the ministry before the 28-year-old was isolated.

The notification received from the Ministry of Justice

Mjacaj himself admitted in evidence that he committed the murder after being informed by other prisoners that he would enter solitary confinement.

Indirectly, Ulsi Manja's announcement that he would isolate him may have been taken by Sokol Mjacaj as a message to act as soon as possible to carry out the murder, which is suspected to have been ordered from abroad. This is the first and sufficient reason why Ulsi Manja should resign and SPAK should investigate this event.

The other reason why Manja should be investigated is related to the degradation of security in the prison system, at the head of which since June last year Manja has appointed his 'debt', Paulin Rajta.

Rajta is the director of the Prison Police, which in the case of Peqin failed to prevent the introduction of the weapon with which Sokol Mjacaj executed Arben Lleshi.

The degradation of security in prisons is a direct consequence of the removal or demotion of specialists and experienced leaders of the system and their replacement with names employed thanks to social and tribal ties with Ulsi Manjë.

This is the reason why SPAK should investigate the nepotistic connections of Ulsi Manja's signature appointments.
