The lawyers' boycott against the GJKKO regulation banning cell phones in courtrooms has led to the failure of another court session against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and other defendants.

The Special Court decided to fine the lawyers who did not appear at the hearing with 100 thousand new lek each, while Veliaj's pre-trial detention was suspended again.

With an absurd stance, the GJKKO says that at the next session on October 27, it will call lawyers from the free legal aid service at the Ministry of Justice to represent the defendants. But in fact, the law provides that legal aid is provided only to certain categories.

Since September 7, lawyers have boycotted trials at the Special Court, opposing the new regulation that prohibits the possession and use of mobile phones in courtrooms.
