Most Albanians have taken or plan summer holidays this year, with only 18% responding to the survey with "no." In the last group, economic impossibility is the reason why they haven't planned a vacation. In terms of accommodation, Albanians prefer apartments when they are in the country and hotels when they go abroad. At least 43% of respondents foresee no more than €50 daily spending per person. In gender relations, men take more breaks, but women are more hands-on. In a more modest sample than the total, businesses express reservations about tourist spending, deeming that foreigners who visit us are "low cost".

This year's summer season has been accompanied by dynamic developments, but also controversy.

On one hand, it was the high influx of foreigners that marked another record in the entries reported in official publications, while on the other hand, demand pushed up prices across the coast.

What was highlighted by tour operators was the pronounced lack of Kosovo citizens, as a result of visa liberalization, who chose new markets to explore, but also the devaluation of the euro, which is also considered an influential factor in this fading interest that is becoming apparent week after week.

In the eyes also came a lower tendency of the locals to rest on the Albanian coast. The latter, according to tourist agencies in the country, have recorded record bookings in countries like Greece, Turkey.

The wave of price panic that was generally moderate in some regions and extreme in some others appeared to play the key role in holiday plans overall.

Monitor, during late June and July, conducted through the ECR (Engaged Citizens Reporting) application on where Albanians will be vacationing this year.

The survey was completed by 659 individuals from across the country, giving an insight into this year's trends in terms of vacations, duration, expenses, accommodation facilities, and most frequented areas.

Respondents have listed some of the improvements that can be made to make the tourist experience better for holidaymakers.

82% of respondents will rest, economic impossibility the main reason for those who do not

The tourist season in the country reaches its peak between July 15 and August 20, but the arrival of foreigners, especially through organized tourism, has extended this season to beyond 100 days.

Albania's promotion on social networks, or international media, has made interest high during spring and autumn, but what are known as summer holidays, which start in May and close in September.

Individuals who answered the Monitor survey's questions reported that most had planned summer vacations this year. At least 541 people, or 82% of respondents, answered yes to this question. The rest, 18%, have responded that they will not take time off this year, listing the reasons.

At least 20% of 118 people who did not plan vacations reported that it was an inability to leave their jobs, while 9% gave different reasons.

The answers of the respondents are dominated by economic impossibility, which is the main reason why individuals have not planned vacations.

At least 71%, or 83 individuals, said they were unable to afford the summer holidays this year.

Some 94% opt for the coast, most holidays up to two weeks

When we talk about summer vacations, most tend to pass by the sea, but the exception is not the mountainous areas.

The tour operators underline that the typical behavior of the Albanian tourist is not that of exploring during the summer holidays, rather it is the passive attitude, thinking of this as a time of complete relaxation.

The same behavior, the Albanian tourist also shows in mountainous areas where different hostels in the country or agroturisms, which have taken a rapid development in recent years, report that foreigners want to explore and walk in nature, while Albanians enjoy the stay and food, not trying to be active.

In the Monitor survey, at least 93.9% of those who said they planned summer vacations chose to spend them in coastal areas.

A minority of 2.6% have chosen mountainous areas and also chose urban cities. In rural areas, only 0.9% of respondents planned for vacations.

As for the duration of the holidays, most seem to plan for more than a week. Specifically, 61% said they had scheduled for one to two weeks, and 27% less than a week.

A smaller share of 9% had planned for up to 2-3 weeks of vacation, while one month and more than a month respectively 1% of respondents answered.
