The Minister of Finance, Delina Ibrahimaj, attacked the media regarding the accusations of setting fuel prices by the Transparency Board.

According to the minister, the Board has reduced the profit margin for oil traders and is protecting citizens from high prices. Did it really happen as the minister says, or as the media have accused? The perfect example is the decision-making of the Transparency Board on October 7, when it increased the price of one liter of diesel by 22 lek.

The board justified the decision with the increase in prices in the markets and the strengthening of the dollar. Both alibis are dismissed with little calculation. At the beginning of October, the dollar was exchanged for 118 lek. The price of one liter of refined oil on the international markets, i.e. untaxed, was 0.89 dollars, or, exchanged in lek at the dollar rate on October 1, 104.5 lek.

On October 7, the dollar was exchanged for 120 lek, while the price of one liter of refined oil in the international markets was 1 dollar. This means that within a week, the price of one liter of diesel increased by 0.11 dollars, or about 14 lek in the international markets.

Logically, according to Minister Ibrahimaj's statement today and the Transparency Board's statement in the decision-making of October 7, the price should have increased no more than 14 lek per liter. But, the price increased by 22 lek, or 8 lek more than the increase in the stock market, Tch reports.

The example illustrates the board's abusive decisions only in cases of price increases, but there are many cases of their non-reduction, or of late and ridiculous figures due to stock market fluctuations.
