In Albania, women are playing an increasingly important role in the business sphere, owning 31.2% of the total enterprises. The trade and other services sectors are particularly dominant for their participation, with respectively 33.9% and 40.5% of women in decision-making positions. However, the sector with the lowest representation of women is the construction sector.
"Scan Intel" has analyzed the data of the business register to understand the trend of employees in our country, according to economic activity and gender. The figures show that 53% of the total employees are men and 47% are women. If we specify them according to economic activity, we notice that compared to men, women dominate in the industry sector and other services.
Meanwhile, if we analyze the employment in the construction or transport and storage sectors, it is obvious that the male gender prevails with 82.9% and 78% of the total employees. On the other hand, the gap between women and men employed in the information and communication sector or accommodation and food service is narrow.
Specifically, in the information and communication sector, 56.3% of men and 43.7% of women are employed, while in accommodation services, women make up 43.8% of the total employees and the rest are men. In contrast, the gap widens in the transport and construction sectors, where the percentage of employed men is 56% and 65.8% higher, respectively, compared to women employed in the respective sectors.
