Albanian tourism recovers its growth pace in July, while the event economy appears to have provided a significant boost to the summer season.

The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, through a reaction on social networks, has described this development as evidence of the importance of events in the development of tourism.

"In July 2026, Albania was visited by 1,955,099 foreign visitors, compared to 1,825,490 visitors in July 2025," writes Gonxha, emphasizing that this is 129,609 more visitors, or an increase of about 7.1% compared to the same month last year.

According to him, even the comparison with June shows a strong recovery. In July, 608,820 foreign visitors were registered, more than a month earlier, marking a monthly increase of 45.22%.

Gonxha notes that the data shows a significant improvement after the slowdown recorded in June. During the period January-May 2026, the growth in the number of foreign visitors had reached 8.2%, while in June the pace dropped to 1.3%, to return to 7.1% in July.

"These results show that the June slowdown did not turn into a sustained downward trend," the minister emphasizes, considering July as a significant recovery month for tourism.

However, according to his calculation, the actual figures still remain below the level that would have been achieved if the previous growth trend had been maintained. In this case, July could have registered around 2,094,542 foreign visitors.

The difference between this scenario and the actual result is 139,443 visitors, or about 6.7% less.

Events, a key factor for tourism

In his reaction, Gonxha places emphasis on the economics of events, describing it as a factor that has helped improve the season's performance.

Festivals, thematic itineraries, celebrations, concerts and international events have created new flows of visitors, while simultaneously generating economic activity for hotels, restaurants, transportation, services and other businesses related to tourism.

In this panorama, major artistic and cultural events have stood out during July, including the YE (Kanye West) event in Tirana, concerts and performances of the independent artistic scene, activities organized by institutions and municipalities, as well as international events and conferences held in the country.

Special artistic activities, such as Zucchero's night, have also been in the spotlight, along with thematic tours and activities that aim to connect tourism with culture and the creative economy.

Protests and attacks on businesses, a concern for the sector

At the same time, the minister raises concerns about the impact that negative developments may have during the season.

According to him, the continuation of protests and the numerous harmful episodes against businesses in the Albanian hospitality industry during July constitute a cause for concern for the tourism sector.

Despite these problems, the return of growth in July shows that the June slowdown did not consolidate as a downward trend.

The July figures, combined with the effect of events, give a positive signal for the summer season, while simultaneously highlighting the importance of security, stability and a rich calendar of activities to further increase tourist flows and the economic impact of the sector.
