Britain records strongest price growth of 4 decades

Great Britain has not seen such strong price growth in four decades. According to authorities data, inflation in April was 9 percent, the highest since 1982, when it stopped at 18 percent.

The product that guides inflation is energy, where families at these rates have increased their bill by £700 a year.

Higher fuel and food prices, driven by the war in Ukraine, are also raising the cost of living.

The association and organisations called on the British government to offer more support to families in need.

About three-quarters of inflation growth in April came from higher electricity and gas bills, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The Bank of England warned earlier this month that the crisis could plunge Great Britain into recession, while forecasts are for the ongoing months of inflation to be two-digit and energy-led again.
