The initiative of the Albanian government for fiscal amnesty has received a strong blow from the European Union.

Through an announcement, the EU clarifies that this draft presents serious concerns and will weaken Albania's controls against money laundering.

The EU points out that this amnesty would do little to increase the tax administration's ability to improve future compliance with tax requirements.

According to the European Union, because non-tax residents, including Albanians living in the EU or the Western Balkans, fall under this law and are required to import cash in order to benefit from the amnesty, the current draft raises serious concerns for member states and its partners. others, as well as a substantial reputational risk for the country.

A few days ago, the Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, said that the government has not received an approval from the institutions of the European Union and the anti-money laundering unit of the Council of Europe, Moneyval, for the draft law "On Fiscal Amnesty".

She underlined that the draft has been presented to international institutions, but it is still in the discussion phase.
