The "respected" of the Fair

The "respected" of the Fair
Kadare at the fair

Ismail Kadareja had the day to go to the fair to sign books for his readers.

The car left him in the lower square of the Palace of Congresses. It barely goes down. I have to carry him up a few steps to the main door. His publisher holds him by the arm until he is sure he has ascended.

A little further on some cameras waiting in the rain. They don't bother him. No one turns the target on him.

Then they entered and everything changes. He is surrounded by readers and people who want to touch him as a saint, take his signature and buy the books. He sits in a corner of the Fair where the "Onufri" stand is and starts signing books for readers who devour every letter and word he speaks. He looks rejuvenated when young people ask him for autographs. It is even possible that he broke the oath that "I will not write again", just because of them.

After him, three luxury cars arrive in the square in front of the Palace of Congresses. The first "Range Rover". They don't stop in the square below where Kadareja got off, but in the square of stairs in front of the door.

About 12 cameras are waiting for him in the rain, and the floodlights are turned on. A bunch of journalists come to ask him how he appreciates the Book Fair, what he will buy, what he reads, what preferences he has... The party people who arrived there before him, make him company as "random citizens".

There is no clear answer. The woman ordered him to buy a love book with a happy ending. I don't know why you definitely want the happy ending. Apparently there are nightmares from some other end. He thought a little about what he liked and then said "I have a passion for Arbëresh". And added that I met them when I was president.

- Yes, books, what books, - insisted the journalists.

- Yes, that's the story, he said and headed towards a stand that lined up a book with a black and white cover. He absentmindedly flipped through the same title several times, thinking he was flipping through different books. Then he ordered a few, pointing to them by color, and a blonde secretary collected them.

Journalists followed him, causing chaos in the fair. Finally he decided to go out. A luxury car was waiting for him at the stairs. I started talking again about books and the need society has for them.

Meanwhile, the three luxury cars parked in front of the door of the fair were ignited and Ilir Meta's escort left. The cameras rolled up and followed him.

...In the corner, Ismail Kadare continued to sign books. He didn't mind the cameras. Neither does this guy. The only concern was the rain and hail that fell outside and from time to time, he asked Bujar, his publisher, how he would get into the car when they left. It was a bit difficult, as Bujar had to take care of both of them, plus carry the tent.

Now at least there was less commotion when the great writer came out to walk down the stairs alone. The car of the important visitor that had occupied the entrance of the Palace of Congresses had left.

And this made us feel less ashamed too, watching this scene in a corner of the Fair. Someone who has made Albania known to the world with his books, and someone else who has made Albania known with his blog.
