"Every hero in history has had to go through three phases of glorification, annihilation and re-evaluation." - This judgment of Fan S. Noli, written as the first sentence in the introduction of his monograph on Skenderbeu and published in 1947 by New York University, has preserved its authenticity until today. Unlike the date of his death (January 17, 1468) that was recorded by the chroniclers of the time, the date of Skanderbeg's birth has never been fixed with certainty.

However, based on his name, Gjergj, historians have raised the hypothesis that Saint Gjergj's day, May 6, could be the birthday of Gjergj Kastriot - Skenderbeu. In any case, if only for this reason, May 6 is another reason to remember Skenderbeu, the Lord of Arberia.

The bibliography of titles of works written about Skanderbeg exceeds 1,000, making him one of the most written historical figures in the world. Biographies, poems, dramas, operas and historical, political, diplomatic and iconographic studies, as well as other genres, have been chosen by Albanian and world authors to treat Skenderbeu and what he represents. Since Marin Barleti and Frang Bardhi, the life and works of Skënderbeu have attracted the attention and stimulated the interest of many Albanian authors and researchers from all over the world.

Especially a corpus of works and works written over the last hundred years by authors such as Fan S. Noli, Athanas Gegaj, Marin Sirdani, Giussepe Valentini, Injac Zamputti, Aleks Buda, Dhimitër Shuteriqi, Kasem Bicoku, Kristo Frashëri, Moikom Zeqo, Oliver Jens Schmitt, Aurel Plasari, Pëllumb Xhufi, etc., keep the history of Skanderbeg very alive even for our times.

Courageous warrior and great patriot, outstanding leader and military strategist, visionary politician and skillful diplomat, Gjergj Kastrioti - Skënderbeu is the most important personality in the history of Albanians, and his figure from the hero, from his time to the recovery from renaissance and until today, it has remained central to the Albanian identity.
