Today we are officially in winter. December 21st marks the shortest day of the year with the longest night, otherwise known as the winter solstice.
The sun rose at 7:03 a.m. and set at 4:14 p.m., totaling 9 hours and 11 minutes of daylight, while the night will be about 15 hours long.
For those living in the Northern Hemisphere, today they will experience the shortest daylight hours, while for those living in the Southern Hemisphere, they will experience the longest daylight hours and the shortest night.
But this phenomenon will be accompanied by another effect, as from tomorrow, the day will begin to overtake the night, taking longer to reach the spring equinox, when day and night will be equal, to reach the summer solstice, where the day will be longer than the night.
