After hours of ground efforts to isolate the fire in the waste field near the Elbasan incinerator, authorities have decided to use helicopters to help extinguish the flames.
According to information, since 16:00 today, helicopters have begun air operations over the affected area with the aim of accelerating the intervention and minimizing the risk of the fire spreading further into the depths of the debris.
Aerial intervention has become necessary due to the difficulties in access and the intensity of the flames that continue to burn in the inner layers of the waste field, despite the dumping of over 10,500 cubic meters of soil.
The helicopters' activation comes at a critical moment, as large plumes of smoke spread over the surrounding area, raising concerns about air pollution and the potential impact on residents' health.
Authorities have not yet given a deadline for when the fire is expected to be fully brought under control.
