Several girls and women protested this Monday afternoon in front of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana, where they demand justice for the 22-year-old from Kenya, Joy Aoko.

The protesters were holding banners and symbolically painted the walls of the prosecutor's office with red paint. One of the activists said that the killing of the young woman was neglected by the Albanian state bodies due to the fact that she was black.

"I think this murder of Joey is a total murder. Even the fact that she was a black woman, if she was a citizen of a western country, the approach of the institutions here would be here. I think justice works differently for rich people and differently for poor people. This is the second protest, I don't know what will happen. I don't want to lose hope because I think that as women, if we lose hope, then we are all over" - said the civil society activist, Xhoi Karaj.

Joy Aoko worked in one of the capital's casinos and was brutally raped a few months ago, then thrown from the window of the apartment where she lived in Tirana. For a long period, the event was tried to be kept secret by the Police and the Prosecutor's Office, while still today no person has been prosecuted in connection with this serious event. The 22-year-old died a few days ago in a hospital in Kenya, while in a coma.
