22 years in prison was given this Wednesday by the Elbasan court to Arbë Paplekaj, for the murder of Pjerin Xhuvani a few days before the elections of April 25, 2021.

The decision came after a long court process and after the testimony of 52 people. The prosecution had requested 25 years of imprisonment for Paplekaj.

The former official of RENEA was himself present at the session where he was escorted under strict security measures.

During the plea hearing, the prosecution requested 25 years in prison for the former commander.

The court of Elbasan has sentenced two former sub-directors of the police station of Elbasan, Nikollaq Palla and Albert Nushi, to one year of probation each.

Meanwhile, the 6 members of the 'Eagle' forces, Dedion Duraku, Pëllumb Biçakun, Erion Ballë, Erion Meçje, Donald Dedje and Besmir Kadiun were sentenced to 8 months of 'trial service'.

The two groups clashed with each other and Arbër Paplekaj shot with a Kalashnikov leaving Pjerin Xhuvan dead and 4 people were injured.

Paplekaj himself declared after the incident that he shot in self-defense.
