Murder of 81-year-old, victim's son recounts conversation with perpetrator

Xhemal Meta's son has recounted the conversation with Isuf Hasa, the suspected perpetrator of the 81-year-old's murder, on the day the crime occurred (January 13).

On News 24, the victim's son stated that he had called the 64-year-old to ask if he had met with his father, but he had told him "No."

He added that his father kept the money in a bag tied around his neck, while the suspected perpetrator was aware of this fact.

While he confessed that Xhemal Meta had chosen to live alone in the village, together with his wife, who has passed away.

"We called the author that day. We asked him if he had met his father, and he said no. The author's family did not try to contact me, his children are married. We knew that the father had the money and kept it tied around his neck in a bag. The author also knew that he had money, they met every day. He had chosen to live alone in the village, they were together with their mother, but she later passed away," the son said.

On 13.01.2025, the services of Police Station No. 4 received a notification from a citizen that his neighbor, citizen Xhemal Meta, was found dead in the yard of his apartment.

The Police Services and the Investigation Team immediately went to the scene of the incident and from the first investigative actions, suspicion arose that this citizen could have been killed with hard objects.

A special investigative group was created to investigate and clarify the case and, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continued to work intensively to clarify the circumstances and legally document the case.

The special investigative group, composed of Specialists from the Serious Crimes Investigation Sector, at the Tirana Local Police Directorate, and Specialists from the Criminal Police Department under the professional guidance of the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, have carried out a series of professional investigative actions through the application of special investigation methods.

Thanks to intensive investigative work, within 48 hours it was possible to solve the incident, identify and capture the suspected perpetrator.

From the entirety of the in-depth investigative actions, it resulted that on 13.01.2025, at around 09:00, citizen Isuf Hasa, 64 years old, went to the apartment of his neighbor Xhemal Meta and for weak motives shot him with a hard tool (hammer) in the back of the head, causing his death.

From the investigative actions, it is suspected that the alleged perpetrator Isuf Hasa, after hitting the victim, took a quantity of monetary values ​​that he was carrying in his pocket, and then left.

From the numerous searches carried out in several apartments of the author and his family members, an amount of 200,000 new lek was found and seized.

During the searches carried out at the apartment of citizen LH (the daughter of the suspected perpetrator) in the village of Gjokaj, Vora, the Police Services found and seized as material evidence the suspected item (hammer) with which the perpetrator committed the murder.

In the operational phase, the Specialists of the Serious Crimes Investigation Sector at the Tirana Police Department, the services of Police Commissariat No. 4, Police Commissariat No. 7, under the direction of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, were involved.
At the end of the first investigative actions, the citizen Isuf Hasa was arrested for the criminal offense of "Premeditated Murder".
