Journalist Adriatik Doçi says that he discovered some emails, which according to him were on the computer and phone of Klodian Zoto, the businessman connected with the incinerators, seized by SPAK. Through these emails, Klodian Zoto, currently on an international search, in the summer of 2020, requested from several hotels in Europe, reconfirmation of the invoices paid by him, in favor of Mr. Ahmetaj. In the published invoices, the name of Mirel Mërtir also appears, who is also wanted for active corruption and money laundering related to the Elbasan incinerator.

Journalist Doçi raises doubts that these emails were in the hands of the investigators and that they were not used intentionally by them. Therefore, he has referred the two prosecutors of the case, Ened Nakuçi and Klodian Braho, to SPAK for abuse of office and actions that prevent the disclosure of the truth. Asked by the Voice of America, how it is proven that these emails were in the hands of the prosecutors and were not used by them as evidence, Mr. Doçi gives this answer.

"The document that proves this is the complete file that was referred to the court by SPAK, where the scientific police refers to the expertise that Klodian Zoto's 3 computers and his phone were disassembled. And these emails are on his computer and on his phone. So some materials were used by the investigators and some others, including these compromising emails for the former minister Arben Ahmetaj, were not included in the investigative file," Adriatik Doçi told Voice of America.

Zoto seems to have collected the compromising data against Mr. Ahmetaj, precisely in 2020, when the prosecution also registered the criminal proceedings in the case of the incinerators, and public pressure and accusations regarding the construction of the incinerators had intensified, probably anticipating the turn that events were taking over. The sums of bookings in luxury hotels range from 1100 to 1700 euros for a two-night stay in 8 trips from Vienna, Milan, Bucharest or Frankfurt. Journalist Adriatik Doçi says that the bookings coincide with the time of approval and the beginning of the implementation of concession contracts for three incinerators 2014-2017, where the role of former minister Ahmetaj, according to him, was important in this process.

Currently, the former high-ranking socialist official Mr. Ahmetaj is not facing any charges from the prosecution, for the incinerators. In a reaction a few days ago to the show "The Unexposed", Mr. Ahmetaj said that the published emails are not original documents and that he did not travel with Zoto or use someone's card. He said that he only traveled with friends and ex-friends and that Zoto is neither one nor the other. The former minister raises doubts about a fine against him.

In February of this year, summoned to the investigative commission on the issue of incinerators, Mr. Ahmetaj denied having any connection and acquaintance with the owners of the incinerators, including Klodian Zoto.

"The question for me would be who you don't know in the Republic of Albania. I have no blood relationship, no family relationship, no family relationship, no business relationship, no work addiction relationship, no relationship of any kind. We were in a city. I even know Zoto from a distance, not up close," said Arben Ahmetaj, former Deputy Prime Minister in February 2022 at the investigative commission for the incinerators.

Mr. Ahmetaj was talked about a few years ago, after reports that he had a car accident in North Macedonia and that Mirel Mërtiri was with him, today wanted internationally in connection with the incinerators. At that time, he overcame this moment by saying that he can travel with dozens of businesswomen and that in this particular case there was no conflict of interest, since Mërtiri, as he said on the Opinion show, did not appear in any document of the incinerators. As for the fact that his partner appeared in these documents, also looking for the issue of incinerators, he replied that she has personal responsibility.

The Voice of America tried to contact the lawyer Ardian Leka, who defends businessman Klodian Zoto, through Wahtsapp as well as by phone, for a reaction on the emails, but did not receive a response until the preparation of this material.

While the former head of the investigative commission for the incinerators, Jorida Tabaku, told the Voice of America that she has currently asked SPAK to know if she was aware of the emails that were published in the media, are they part of the evidence in the investigative file, and if the former minister Ahmetaj was called as a person in the know, but he added that there is still no answer.

"For me, the data was shocking if it was about an ordinary official, and not when it is about a person who has affirmed under oath that he has nothing to do with these people, that he does not know these people and that he does not has influenced the decision-making on the issue of incinerators" - Jorida Tabaku, former head of the investigative commission for incinerators, said to the Voice of America.

The Voice of America addressed you and the chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Mr. Taulant Balla, for a reaction on this matter. He said that the justice reform is yielding results and that there can be no investigations by the prosecution, the opposition or various individuals.

"The accusations in this country are raised by the prosecution, and I believe that the work done so far, and everything is the responsibility of SPAK, for the case in question, it is that she should speak, others should be silent" - he said to the Voice of America Taulant Balla, chairman of the SP parliamentary group

The Voice of America asked SPAK if the prosecution was aware of these e-mails and if so, are they part of the evidence in the investigative file, and if it was not aware of them, do these e-mails serve as evidence to obtain former minister Arben Ahmetaj is also questioned or under investigation. In the response of the Special Prosecutor's Office, it is stated that the preliminary investigations continue and they cannot answer these questions as long as the investigations are ongoing.

While in the notification of SPAK to the media about sending the file with some defendants to the Court, for the Elbasan incinerator, it is said that the investigations continue separately for other elements, including the evidence and documents that were found and were extracted from the computers seized in the apartment of the defendant Klodian Zoto.

The issue of the three incinerators in Albania, Elbasan, Fier and Tirana, in which the former Minister of Environment Lefter Koka and the former Socialist MP Alqi Blako, both arrested, continue to be a hot potato in politics. and a strong test for the new bodies of justice./ VOA
