Veliaj appeals the measure of "prison arrest" in the Special Appeal

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has appealed to the Appeals Court of Appeals against the detention order imposed on him on February 10.

Veliaj's lawyer filed the appeal with the Appeals Court by mail on February 14, 2 days after the GJKKO upheld the prison sentence.

Media sources claim that the defense has not filed a complaint against the elder's wife, Ajola Xoxa, who is under a 'compulsion to appear' measure. 

Veliaj is under indictment for two criminal offenses, corruption and money laundering. However, the mayor denies the charges brought against him, calling it a political trial 3 months before the elections and according to him, there is no fragment in the file where it is said that he requested or received a bribe.
