Navalny's death in prison, Rama reacts: This tragedy underlines the importance of the unity of NATO allied countries

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the death in prison of the leader of the Russian opposition, Alexei Navalny.

Through an article on the social network 'X', Rama states that he joins the position of American President Joe Biden regarding the honoring of Navalny and the taking of punitive measures against Russia. According to Rama, the death of the main leader of the Russian opposition and the biggest opponent of Vladimir Putin, emphasizes the importance of the determination of the NATO allies.

Rama further writes that Albania remains committed to cooperating with allies in strengthening defense capabilities and reorganizing the military industry.

"I stand with President Biden and other allied leaders in honoring Alexei Navalny's ultimate sacrifice. This tragedy underscores the importance of Allied unity and resolve. The Munich Security Conference is an opportune moment to emphasize the importance of collective efforts, especially among NATO allies. We must all share the responsibility of upholding NATO's principles, and while we face complex challenges, we must not hesitate to go further. The 2% commitment is the minimum requirement, not the maximum. Albania remains committed to cooperating with our partners to strengthen our defense capabilities, including the revitalization of our military industry", says Rama.

Earlier, among the Albanian politicians who reacted to Navanly's death were the Foreign Minister Igli Hasani and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. The latter wrote on the social network 'X' that the death of the opposition leader in Russia shows a determination of official Moscow to eliminate anyone who opposes the regime.

US President Joe Biden, like many other leaders, has blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for the death of the Russian opposition leader, warning that there will be consequences for Russia.
