Residents of the village of Kaçinar in Mirdita are protesting against the construction of the HPP in the area and are publicly denouncing the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for granting the project permit, also requesting the intervention of the prosecution with investigations based on the criminal complaint, as they consider it a violation of the law by local and central officials.
Gathered in front of the MEI building, they shouted "Water is life, don't dry our souls " and " No black hand on white Mirdita ."
"They want to steal our water, the most precious human asset. We have no information whatsoever. The residents were not informed about the permit, which is illegal. The competent bodies should investigate, it is in violation of the law. We have informed all institutions to stop this project and the construction of the HPP," said, among other things, the organizers of the protest and the residents of Kaçinari.
Four hydroelectric power plants are being built in Kaçinar.
Two weeks after the concession company " Shpërdhaza-Energji " landed construction equipment in Kaçinar, residents are asking Minister Balluku to suspend the works.
They claim that this concession not only violates the status of the protected natural area but also damages agriculture.
"The Shperdhazë River Canyon, which has been granted a concession for the construction of 4 HPPs with a capacity of 16 Mega, is a legally protected area as a natural monument. The application of this concession has a devastating impact on the livelihoods of residents and a negative impact on the environment and economy, and brings catastrophic damage to the flora and fauna of the Kaçinari area," said a protester.
"They want to steal our water, the most precious human asset," "Water is our life," or "No black hand on the White Mirdita" were some of the banners held by the residents of Kaçinar.
The concession for the construction of 4 HPPs by "Shpërdhaza-Energji" in the Kaçinari area of Mirdita was granted in 2018 by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The construction company of these hydropower plants is owned by two partners.
They are Artur Kadareja , one of the biggest beneficiaries of public tenders in healthcare, previously disqualified by the Public Procurement Agency for fraud, and former socialist MP Mezan Malaj./Kapital
