Dritëro Azemi and 25-year-old Flaka Abdullahu are the two wanted citizens from Kosovo, suspected of being members of the criminal group that was hit by the Tirana police and where 46 kilograms of tritol were seized. Azemi, who is also suspected of being the head of the criminal group, appears wanted even in 2022, for the wounding of Shpëtim Metalia, an event that took place in a nightclub in Tirana.

Azemi and Abdullahu are suspected of introducing the significant amount of explosives through the Kosovo-Albania bus line. Together with the other 3 arrested, also from Kosovo, it is suspected that they had connections with criminal gangs in Shkodër.

Investigators have begun to investigate several serious events in Shkodër and Tirana, early events with tritol explosions, as there are doubts that this group is involved.

On Tuesday, the Tirana police announced that they had arrested Rigon Maliq, 20 years old, Liron Pirë, 25 years old, Shkëlqim Halabaku, 27 years old, all three residents of Gjilan. The 4-month investigation of the organized crime sector in Tirana Police was finalized with the seizure of 203 molds with a total weight of 46 kg.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Taulant Balla expressed his regret for the publications in the Kosovo media regarding the operation of the State Police.

"The operation is fully documented and on this occasion I inform the public opinion in Kosovo that, I quote: On February 4, 2024, at 10:38 p.m., the Tirana Operative Room sent information to the Kuka Operative Room that a vehicle with Kosovo license plates, if found had to be stopped due to an ongoing investigation. At 00:30, at the Checkpoint located on the "Kombi Road", the Kukës Police identified the "BMË" type vehicle, where the first passenger was the Kosovar citizen Liron Pira, declared wanted for criminal offenses. Trafficking in weapons and ammunition" and "Illegal possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition". After the first "BMË" type vehicle with Kosovo license plates, object of control, there was also a second "Skoda" type vehicle, which, from the interview of the passengers, showed that they were traveling together. The vehicles together with the persons were escorted to the premises of DVP Kukas for further verification by applying the standard escort procedures. The police officers informed them of the reasons for the verification and escort, based on the request from the DVP Tirana. We emphasize that the driver of the vehicle accepted and did not oppose the police officers for any moment. The services of the DVP Tirana traveled to the DVP Kuka as soon as they received the notification, and took the citizens accompanied by the two aforementioned vehicles, performing administrative actions according to the standard procedure of the State Police", says Balla.

The minister also clarified that " as regards the claims of any of the artists of the troupe involved in the operation, for mistreatment by the State Police, I inform you that the AMP has started the investigation in this regard. But the claim about the excessive hours of keeping them in the police doesn't stand, on the contrary, the State Police acted much faster than the standard verification deadline, precisely because it took into account the status of the actors at the scene. Who, however, could not be released without all the verifications being done. Finally, the regret remains and becomes even greater, when instead of understanding the fact that this operation resulted in the capture of 203 tritoli molds, misunderstanding and hatred against the blue uniforms of the Republic of Albania is encouraged.
