Cocaine traffic, the SPAK report reveals the "market" of Albanian groups and where they hide the money

Organized criminal groups run by Albanian nationals are being considered by national law enforcement agencies as criminal groups with significant influence on international drug markets.

Moreover, there is an increase in the sophistication of the crime, the communication between the members of the group, the connection with the international criminal organizations and the ways of money laundering.

The finding is made by the Special Prosecutor's Office, SPAK, in the 2022 annual report, a copy of which was provided by A2.

According to the report, criminal groups with Albanian leaders are mainly involved in the trafficking of cannabis and cocaine. Referring to SPAK data, these groups are active not only in the region, but also in several countries of the European Union, Great Britain, Turkey, and the USA.

The peculiarity of the structured groups run by Albanians is the creation of a direct approach to the countries of origin of cocaine production, creating strong links with criminal organizations in Latin America.

The report also reveals the change in the movement of money earned from drug trafficking, increasing the difficulty of tracking it by law enforcement agencies.

Thus, according to SPAK, there is a tendency to transfer the money outside the Albanian jurisdiction, to offshore companies, or to tax havens.

The Special Prosecutor's Office finds that Albanian criminal groups are using informal money transfer systems such as "havala", "hundi" or "fei chen".

Through these systems, which operate outside the banking systems, the groups send money to tax havens in countries such as Cyprus, San Marino or Dubai.

The SPAK also considers the fact that in the United Arab Emirates, namely in the city of Dubai, a high number of wanted persons with security measures "arrest in prison" for criminal offenses within the framework of organized crime, for whom it is not being issued extradition by the justice authorities of the United Arab Emirates, reports A2.
