A hearing has started in the court of Durrës to determine the security measure against the administrator of the beach in Vilë Bashtovo, Pëllumb Nika, where 3 members of the Halilaj family drowned at the weekend.

I risked my life and had a red flag, even if there were 10 observers, they wouldn't be able to do anything. On the human side, when I saw that no one was getting in, God gave it to me and I got in with a kayak. I was sinking. The defense said that its client is trained and why not as a beach watcher, but as a security worker and the accident did not happen in the maritime space in front of his beach.

According to the defense, Nika did a heroic act by risking his life when no one went in for help in a sea with waves, while he had taken precautions on his beach. He requested the illegal validation of the arrest on the beach and the assignment of the measure "obligation to appear".

While the prosecution requested legal validation and the assignment of the security measure "arrest in prison". The session, at the request of the defense and the arrested, is taking place without the presence of cameras.

The prosecution has charged the arrested Pëllumb Nika with the charges of "Manslaughter" and "Misuse of duty", since according to the charge, with the conclusion of the contract to provide services on the beach, the subject assumes a public function.

Elvis Halilaj and his two sons were located in one of the tents of the private Dream Beach beach where the personal belongings of the victims were found.

The defense of the arrested, while expressing regret and condolences for the family of the victims, raised claims for the performance of procedural actions by the police and accusations under the emotional effect of the event and its consequences.
