The 23rd edition of the Magical Song festival ended last night, where singer Marsela Çibukaj was declared the winner with the song "I paftuar".
Her text has also intrigued the researcher Ardian Vehbiu who, publishing the song's text, asks if the Albanian used is full of trans-grammatical nerve and pluralism of endings, or if it is simply a genuine artistic effort to consolidate the Kosovar-standard pop slang trans-Albanian, in the name of opening new paths?
Ardian Vehbi's post
I was listening to the winning song of "Magic Song" 2022 by Marsela Çibukaj (my favorite singer in Spanish), and my ear caught these verses of the text by Alban Ramosaj:
Tell me how betrayal tastes
On my darkest days you hurt me
In funeral of my lover
You are uninvited
I am not in a hurry to say what I think about this Albanian song (I am aware that I am not the "target" audience of this song), but I want to ask you who might know, if this the masculine form, DASHNIS TEM, with the noun in the feminine gender and the adjective in the masculine gender, is encountered in any dialect or colloquialism.
In other words, let me ask you if this form comes directly from the folk rock (which we do not see) or is it a Safí creation that enriches Albanian with both licentious and anti-conformist influences, such that they add artistic values to the song, all marking the listener as sane.
The text also brings a potpourri of pruned verb participles, such as (I have) TOLERATED, (there is) FINISHED, and standard ironed participles (you have) HURT me, (you are) UNINVITED.
Is this the Albanian of the future in the Open Balkans, full of trans-grammatical nerve and pluralism of endings, or is it simply a genuine artistic effort to consolidate the Kosovar-standard slang of trans-Albanian pop, in the name of opening of new paths?
