Economic Crime has landed on the ground, after numerous complaints due to water pollution in the capital.

After hundreds of complaints and the alarming situation in unit number 5 with water pollution, Economic Crime has begun seizures and interrogations.

The water pollution was caused by works carried out by UKT, without any notification to citizens.

"Today, on 11.04.2025, following information received from open sources (social networks) regarding a water pollution issue in several areas of the city of Tirana, the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Section carried out investigative and procedural actions to document and clarify the circumstances. Following the above, an inspection of the scene was carried out, where it is suspected that the rupture of the underground water pipeline occurred. Also, a statement was taken as a person with knowledge from citizen Dorjan Korbeci, acting Director of the Production and Distribution Department, who explained that, on "Shaban Karaj" street, as a result of depreciation, the water supply line was damaged, resulting in a turbulent supply," the official announcement states.

A serious situation has occurred in recent days in Tirana, where citizens' homes have had contaminated water.

After several denunciations on social networks, journalist Arsen Rusta has filed a complaint with SPAK against the head of the Tirana UKT, Skerdi Drenova, for water pollution.

A report has also been filed with SPAK against the acting mayor of Tirana Municipality.
