Albania is not in danger from the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey.
This is how the seismologist Edmond Dushi says, in a statement for Klan News, he reassures the citizens by saying that the devastating seismic tremors of Turkey do not pose a direct danger to Albania.
Question: Is Albania at risk since Turkey was hit by a very powerful earthquake?
Seismologist Edmond Dushi: To reassure you, I can say from the beginning that there is no direct danger. So the fact that this earthquake occurred does not constitute a danger for Albania because the considerable distance and the different tectonic positioning do not allow this. But of course the Mediterranean region is very active and we have noticed that there is an increase in the number of moderate to strong earthquakes. Regarding this earthquake, this earthquake is one of the earthquakes in the published history of earthquakes in Turkey, it turns out to be the second with this magnitude. Turkey is an active tectonic territory and has earthquakes with a magnitude above 7, there is a significant number of such earthquakes.
Over 1,000 deaths have been caused in Turkey and Syria by the earthquake that hit Turkey this morning. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake destroyed hundreds of buildings and left thousands injured.
