Foreigners who come to Albania to work in the field of information technology will have more simplified procedures to obtain a residence permit in Albania.

In a decision recently approved by the government, the only thing an individual needs is a statement from the company that employed him.

"The foreigner, who, at the moment of passing through one of the border crossing points while entering the territory of the Republic of Albania, proves that he will work in an IT company, through a statement issued by the company itself, which has its main activity computer programming, consultancy and related services, data processing, hosting and related activities, internet portals and/or publishing computer programs, according to the nomenclature of economic activities, approved by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, and performs activities as a user in science and technology parks, has the right to enter without a visa and to stay without a unique permit in the Republic of Albania for a period of up to 1 (one) year," the decision states.

During this period, the foreigner can apply to be provided with a unique permit in the Republic of Albania.

Some time ago, the government approved the tax exemption of these individuals for up to 1 year, as a convenience that makes Albania more attractive "for digital nomads".

Meanwhile, another decision allows all employees in the IT field, Albanian or not, to pay social contributions only for the minimum salary, even though their salary is usually several times higher.
