Three Albanian citizens have lost their lives and four others have been seriously injured as a result of a tragic accident that occurred in the early hours of this Sunday morning, May 25th in Germany, near the city of Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The Albanians were at a family party and were returning home in a nine-seater minibus, when for still unknown circumstances the vehicle went off the road.
A 53-year-old man and two women aged 47 and 65 were killed, while four other people between the ages of 20 and 66 were injured.
They are of Albanian and foreign origin, but their identities have not yet been revealed.
The victims are also confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after contact with German authorities, while guaranteeing that consular structures have provided the necessary support to the affected citizens.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, investigations into the circumstances of the accident are still ongoing.
However, German media reports that the minibus left the A48 highway and overturned, but no other vehicle was involved in the accident, so suspicions fall on the role of the driver.
There are no indications that the 22-year-old driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said, urging the public not to engage in speculation.
"It's a very, very terrible accident," a Koblenz police spokesman added.
The cause of the accident is still unclear, German media report, citing police sources, noting that initial findings indicated that the minibus had left the A48 motorway and overturned.
However, immediately after the tragic event, another vehicle "drove" over the accident site.
It is not clear whether the vehicle collided with the minibus or simply passed by the scene of the collision.
Autobahn 48 has a high level of traffic and was closed for more than four hours, until the morning, when cars were allowed to pass again.
